Ausflug nach Kronberg

Because Wanling is in school all week and Gary is in the archive or library every day (and what am I doing all day?....I'll get to that later....), we try to use the weekend to do some exploring near or not-so-near.  The first weekend Wanling and I were here, we just hopped on a train and went 15 minutes out of the city to a little town called Kronberg.  We had picked it out from a brochure, knowing it had a fortress that was well-preserved, and figuring it was a beautiful village.  And we were right.  So we spent the Saturday afternoon exploring the castle, wandering around the town, stumbling upon the Saturday market, and stopping for Kaffee und Kuchen (hot chocolate for Wanling).  The first picture of Wanling on the granite bench shows the castle in the distance; following are pictures taken at the castle and from the vantage point of the castle (the roofs).  Then follows our stroll through the town.

The amazing thing about Germany is that almost every little town has these beautiful remnants of the past, often with a castle, palace, or part of a city wall still an active part of the village alongside the centuries-old architecture.  When we were at Schloss Kronberg, the town's people were cleaning up the grounds because there was going to be a "culture evening" held there that night.
